Shared Dreaming
There are two kinds of shared dreams mutual and concurrent. Each consist of two or more people dream of similar places, characters, or events. The difference in the two are the means by which the dreams occur. In mutual dreaming, the dreamers intentionally develop a desire to experience a shared dream through incubation. However, in concurrent dreams, the dreamers had no idea their content would be similar going into the night's rest.
Mutual Dreaming
Mutual dreaming is an intentional phenomenon. Dreamers plan to meet others on a particular dreamscape, perhaps even design activities to share subconsciously. Dreamers may know each other in waking life or only in the dreamscape, however the former is more easily authenticated. A deeper understanding of an individual can be obtained in dream state.
Concurrent Dreaming
Concurrent dreaming occurs when a dreamer unconsciously share a dream experience with another individual. You may find your selves in the same setting, together or individually, meeting the same characters, or witnessing the same events. Concurrent dreams are generally reveal accidentally, one person describing an experience to another. These strange occurrences may be attempting to enlighten one another or present a warning. They may also simply expose a subconscious desire to share with another person.
Sharing dreams is a difficult practice for most, but to a select few it can also come naturally. For example twins will commonly share dreams in such a natural way from birth that the experience is simply mundane or trivial. Others claim they can transverse the dreamlands of others as easily as strolling into there neighbors backyard. It seems clear to me that the creation of a usable mutual meeting ground is the best choice for shared dreaming, to invade the privacy of an others dreamscapes may be considered a serious breach of trust.
I will purpose some shared dreaming techniques next post.
